High-season preview: turn up the heat this winter in Grenada

There's more to life than sailing events, dancing, festivals, parties and carnivals - right? Well in Grenada they like to make the most of their perfect climate by enjoying the finer things in life.

Whether you own a superyacht, a fishing boat or something in between, here's what the 2016/2017 high season will look like in Grenada & The Grenadines...

25 October 2016
Thanksgiving Day
A public holiday commemorating the anniversary of the 1983 Caribbean and American military intervention.

From 26 November 2016 
RORC Transatlantic Race
The second annual RORC Transatlantic Race begins off the coast of the Spanish island of Lanzarote. Participants will begin to arrive at Port Louis Marina, Grenada approximately 10 days later and the final finishers could take up to 3 weeks.

16-18 December 2016
Carriacou Parang Festival
Berthing at Port Louis Marina is the perfect opportunity to visit the beautiful island of Carriacou to witness the annual Carriacou Parang Festival. Carriacou is rich with traditional culture, these include; Big Drum, Quadrill Dancing, Shakespeare Mass, Tombstone Feast and the list could go on and on.

New Year’s Eve Party

Spice Island Billfish Tournament – Grand Slam
The seas surrounding Grenada are some of the best in the world for catching a Grand Slam, which means taking a blue marlin, white marlin and sailfish all on one day. The Budget Marine Spice Isle Billfish Tournament is held every year for 4 days but the buzz of the tournament comes to life the week before the opening briefing; boats from all over arrive at the Grenada Yacht Club for their choice spot on the docks. The atmosphere is electric, with music and spontaneous social gatherings at the sterns of joined up boats.

Grenada Sailing Week
Great courses and party venues with fun Lay Day activities – the 2017 Grenada Sailing Week will introduce sailors to the very best sailing that Grenada has to offer. The Grenada Sailing Week combines the warmth and charm of Grenada with great sailing conditions to create this annual spectacle. In previous years, we’ve seen 13 nationalities, 36 boats and 300 plus crew come to Grenada to take part in this International Sailing Regatta.

Carriacou Carnival
Carriacou Carnival encompasses wild and wonderfully expressive street dances, soca frenzy, parade of the bands and a calypso competition that combines rhythm with humorous and stinging social commentary.

8 February 2017
Independence Day Celebrations
The marine celebrations include the Workboat Regatta. Unlike other sporting yachting events, the boats in this event were traditionally the working fishing boats of the community – 16 or 17 feet long, made from local hard woods and with masts of bamboo.

Pure Grenada Music Festival
The Pure Grenada Music Festival (PGMF) continues to deliver on its promise of “first-of-its-kind, one-of-a-kind“ musical revelation. It features the widest range of musical taste and many world famous artistes at numerous venues. Latest news is that Joss Stone will be performing as well as Steel Pulse. Carriacou Maroon & String Band Music Festival
Sample the taste of this traditional smoked food, enjoy performances from various Caribbean islands and come out with the family for an evening of fun, games and pure entertainment. Move to the vibrations of the heavy drumming and groove to the sweet sounds of string band music from Carriacou’s popular musicians.
