Success at the annual Palma Superyacht Show & MYBA Charter Show Barcelona 2019

The two superyacht shows integral to the marine trade took place last week and Camper & Nicholsons Marinas was present at both shows for the 4th consecutive year, helping represent our iconic and exclusive marina superyacht destinations – Grand Harbour Marina, Malta and Limassol Marina, Cyprus.

Both shows provide a vital role in the superyacht brokerage and charter markets. According to the Superyacht Times, “Its effectiveness has been increasingly apparent: last year’s edition resulted in a number of yachts sold or chartered as a result of the event, including three yachts sold by Northrop and Johnson and two by Camper and Nicholson, as well as three charters purveyed by Burgess.”

Camper & Nicholsons Marinas hosted guests with sister company Camper & Nicholsons International during the Palma Superyacht Show. We received unprecedented berthing enquiries from brokers, boat owners and marine businesses interested in berthing options in our Marina network.

During the MYBA Charter Show, Camper & Nicholsons Marina stand was located next to the One Ocean Yacht Club in Port Vell, Barcelona. With morning coffee and croissants for attendees and exhibitors to enjoy at the show.

Laura Muirhead, Marketing & Communications Manager at Camper & Nicholsons Marinas, commented, “The Palma Superyacht Show and the MYBA Charter Show are perfectly timed to kick-off the summer season. The shows are great for catching up with new and existing clients who book our berths throughout the year at our international network of premium marinas. This year, we have been excited to release new berth leases for sale, at Grand Harbour Marina and Port Louis Marina. In addition villa and berth combinations are also available at Limassol Marina in Cyprus. We have received lots of interest in berthing solutions for the coming season, and a lot of interest in our superyacht facilities and crew programmes for the winter.”

MYBA’s success at Barcelona is supported by recent data collated by the Spanish Association of Superyachts (AEGY) shows that 95 superyachts obtained a licence to charter in the Balearics in 2018, reflecting a considerable market growth.

“If we consider that the total number of superyachts available for charter in the western Mediterranean is around 700, and given that there are six key destinations within that area, then a little over 100 yachts actually chartering in the Balearics is a normal and respectable part of the fleet,” explains Anne Sterringa, senior charter broker at Camper and Nicholsons Spain. “It is very possible that 100 yachts annually are about the Balearics’ fair share of the market and numbers will stabilise around this figure.”
