As part of Tourism Awareness Month under the theme ‘Tourism connects us all’, the Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) launched its People’s Tourism Choice Awards with a virtual twist. The initiative, which began in 2018, invites members of the public to nominate and recognize individuals/businesses making significant contributions to the Tourism industry in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Integral to the yachting success in the Southern Caribbean, Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina have been working closely with MAYAG (Marine & Yachting Association of Grenada) in assisting the yachting community with advice and information for those boats who are sheltering in and around Grenada.

Marina Manager at Port Louis Marina Charlotte Fairhead is one of seven members of the MAYAG committee which consistently helps discussions and influence to help keep the marina industry within Grenada up to date, including client requests, relevant information and the health and safety of yachts men and women.

The MAYAG Sub Committee team consists of:
  1. Jason Fletcher – President of MAYAG
  2. Dawn Decoteau – Vice President of MAYAG
  3. Patrick Brathwaite – Board Member of MAYAG
  4. Karen Stiell – MAYAG Secrtariat
  5. Charlotte Fairhead – Marina Manager of Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina
  6. Anita Sutton – Owner of Island Dreams
  7. James Pascal – Owner of Horizon Yacht Charters
The committee behind MAYAG commented;

“A heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted for the MAYAG team to receive a special People’s Tourism Choice Award from the Grenada Tourism Authority. We were nominated and awarded for our work on and management of the Integrated Yacht Arrival Protocol. This protocol enabled over 500 yachts with 1,200 plus crew to arrive in Grenada during May through to August 2020. The yachts sailed into Grenada to escape the hurricane season and we were honoured that we were able to play an essential part in this, and the yachts safety.”

With the sub-committee support, MAYAG have setup the yacht registry called Grenada Lima. The purpose of which was to gather data on boats currently in Grenada and more importantly, boats planning on coming to Grenada for the 2020 hurricane season. Based on the high number of boats that had expressed the wish to come to Grenada an Integrated Yacht Entry Protocol was created and approved by the Government of Grenada and managed by the MAYAG Sub Committee.

Charlotte Fairhead, Marina Manager at Port Louis Marina comments,

“It has been a great honour to work with MAYAG and successfully implement a safe entry for yachts to Grenada. It is exciting to have won a brilliant award in recognition for all our efforts. The yacht registry portal was created to allow yachts to enter Grenada in a safe manner despite the borders being closed and better communicate relevant marine information during the first months of the pandemic. Thank you so much!”

The Integrated Yacht Arrival Protocol:

The Yacht Arrival Protocol is now being managed by the authorities in Grenada. If you are on a yacht and you want to come to Grenada then you must do the following:

  • Register on SailClear – at least 24 hours before arrival
  • Take a PCR test a maximum of 72 hours before your departure to Grenada
  • You will be required to quarantine on your yacht for 4 days then you will be tested again. Once the results are negative then you will get permission to clear in
  • If your sailing time (with no land fall) is more than 4 days and you have GPS track to prove this then you may be able to take a test on arrival or at the earliest opportunity and be exempt from the 4 days quarantine. You will be advised on arrival
  • Any boat owner who is still considering  Grenada and Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina for Hurricane Season should register on Sail Clear.
